Rowing Earns Bronze at Chattanooga Head Race

The University of Alabama Rowing team competed for the first time as an NCAA Division I program Saturday at the Chattanooga Head Race and came away with a pair of bronze medals.
Alabama head coach Larry Davis' "A" boat finished third in the Collegiate 8 race, posting a time of 17:57.2 while the Crimson Tide's "B" boat finished fifth with an 18:58.1. In the Collegiate 4 race Alabama again grabbed third place, posting a time of 19:49.1, just 12 seconds off the University of Tennessee's winning time.
"This regatta was a great showing of our potential," co-captain McKenna Frease said. "We will only get better as the season progresses."
Alabama return to action next weekend at the 42nd Head of the Charles Regatta in Cambridge, Mass. The Head of the Charles Regatta is held annually on the Charles River, which separates Boston, Massachusetts from Cambridge. With 7500 athletes, it is the largest rowing regatta in the world. The course is approximately three miles long.
