Christian Newton has been hired as assistant men’s golf coach at the University of Alabama. The announcement was made by Crimson Tide head coach Jay Seawell. He comes to the Crimson Tide after serving as assistant coach at Georgia Southern for the past two seasons.
“Christian brings a vast amount of experience from both the coaching and player perspectives,” said Seawell. “He’s been an assistant at Georgia Southern, a top 15 program, and he was an all-conference golfer. It’s exciting to have him on board, and I think he’s going to be a great asset to this young team as it marches on to, hopefully, Southeastern Conference and NCAA title chases.”
Newton is a native of Lyons, Ga. He was an All-Southern conference golfer at Georgia Southern where he played from 1997-2001, graduating in 2001. He played professional golf on the mini tour before returning to Georgia Southern as an assistant. He received his Master’s degree there in Sports Management in 2003.
Last season he helped coach Georgia Southern to a 13th place NCAA team finish and a top 25 national ranking, producing two All-Americans along the way.
