Final Results
Freshman Matt Swan collected his second Top 25 individual finish in his second collegiate tournament Tuesday. The Montgomery native shot 71-76-73/220, four over par, to finish T-25th at UAB's Shoal Creek Intercollegiate here.
The news wasn't as good for the Alabama team which finished 11th out of 15 teams after opening the season a week ago with a second place showing at a tournament hosted by the University of Tennessee's where Alabama finished two under as a team.
LSU won the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate, defeating Tennessee by one stroke. LSU shot 284-289-290/863, one under par, to win the championship. Tennessee was next (864), followed by host UAB (867), East Tennessee State (869), Georgia State (870), Notre Dame (872), Florida (874), Florida State (878), North Carolina State (879), SMU (884), Alabama (290-304-297/891), Central Florida and North Florida (892), Toledo (898) and Birmingham Southern (932).
ETSU's Rhys Davies (72-70-68/210) defeated Notre Dame's Cole Isban and Tennessee's Jonathan Mount in a playoff to claim the tournament's individual championship.
For Alabama, Swan had its best finish at T-25th. Lance Walker finished T-32nd (73-74-75/222). Mark Harrell finished T-46th (77-76-72/225), Joseph Sykora T-53rd (71-79-77/227) and Matt Hughes finished T-63rd (75-78-78/231).
Next up for the Crimson Tide is its own Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate which will be held at Old Overton Club in Birmingham October 10-11. That event brings 12 teams together, most of them Top 25 ranked, including defending national champions Georgia.
