Augustus Maiyo Named SEC Cross Country Athlete of the Week

University of Alabama freshman cross country runner Augustus Maiyo has been named this week’s SEC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week as announced by the Southeastern Conference.
Maiyo helped lead the Crimson Tide to a season opening team championship at the Brooks Memphis Twilight XC Classic.
“It was great to see the SEC honor Augustus for his performance in Memphis, especially with it being his first collegiate meet,” said Coach Joe Walker. “We hope there’s a lot more of these honors down the road for him.”
Maiyo posted a second place finish in his first collegiate cross country meet while recording a personal best 19:09.57 on the four-mile course.
The Crimson Tide will host the Crimson Classic this weekend at the Harry Pritchett Cross Country Course. The meet is scheduled for Saturday, September 17 beginning at 9:00 a.m. CT.
