Murphy Helps Lead Canada to Upset of Team USA

University of Alabama head softball coach Patrick Murphy helped lead Team Canada to perhaps its biggest win ever last night as the Canadians defeated the US National team 2-1 in the first round of the inaugural World Cup of Softball.
“What an incredible feeling, to be a part of something as historic as this,” said Murphy. “Our team knew they could play with the US and they went out, gave it everything they had and were rewarded for their efforts.”
It was the first loss suffered by the Americans in international competition since 2002.
Murphy is serving as hitting instructor and first base coach for the Canadians. Team Canada will next take on the Japanese National team at 7:00 p.m. CT.
