The University of Alabama softball program will be well represented on ESPN2 tonight as moments after former All-American catcher Ashley Courtney appears as a ball girl for the Red Sox-Yankees game, current Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy will take the stage on ESPN2 as well.
Murphy, who is an assistant coach for the Canadians, will help lead his team against the US National team in the first round of the inaugural World Cup of Softball. The tournament is being held at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
It will be Murphy’s second appearance at the stadium in two months as he helped lead the Crimson Tide softball team to the 2005 Women’s College World Series, played annually in HOF Stadium. It was Alabama’s third appearance in six years in the WCWS under Murphy.
He is in his third season with the Canadian National team, who he helped lead to a berth in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens where they claimed a fourth place finish.
The game is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. (CT) but will be tape-delayed on ESPN2 and will air at approximately 10:00 p.m. (CT), or immediately following the conclusion of the Red Sox-Yankees.
