Alabama’s softball team is making noise. This year has shaped up to be one of the best, statistically, ever for the Crimson Tide. The excitement in the clubhouse is electric as the Tide makes its way into the post-season, bidding for a national title. The Tide’s starting short stop feels it as well. Affectionately know as “Dom,” Dominique Accetturo has a strong presence both at the plate and on the field. Currently batting .283 with 10 homeruns and 37 RBIs, Accetturo is a slugger.
After doing some research, I ran across a photo of you bare handing a ground ball after your glove flew off. Relive that play for me.
“I remember going after it, and my glove slipped off, so I had to bare hand it and throw it to second to make a double play.”
How would you say you guys pull together as a team and get fired up before a game?
“Well I think that we are naturally fired up. The camaraderie on the team is great. We will be on the bus, and we will cut up with each other. I think we all have really great chemistry.”
Do you have any pre-game rituals that you do to get yourself focused?
“I get my hair braided before every game, which is a really big thing for me. If you notice, it’s always braided.”
What is the most memorable moment you have ever experienced with your teammates?
“One of the most memorable was my freshman year when we were in Louisiana. We were playing Louisiana Lafayette, and the ride to the hotel was the funniest and most memorable time. Also, winning one of the regionals my freshman year was really fun.”
If you were not playing softball and could play any other sport what would it be?
“I would enjoy playing golf. I would love to play if I wasn’t playing softball. I can’t play now because I am afraid I might mess my swing up.”
What made you decide to come to Alabama from Florida?
“You know, I just felt comfortable. There really was not one persuading me. They asked me the first time, and I felt really comfortable the second time when we were at dinner. Coach Murphy and Aly (Habetz) asked me if we were going to get a new shortstop, and I said yes.”
Who would you like to play in the post-season?
“Cal. They were ruthless when we played them in Hawaii.”
