For her volunteer work off of the field, University of Alabama softball player Jennifer Wright has been named to the 2005 SEC Softball Good Works Team.
A native of Brentwood, Tenn., Wright volunteered her time to speak at Myrtlewood Elementary School, stressing the importance of doing well in school. She also took time to discuss drug awareness with young children, pushing for kids to stay drug free.
Wright, who graduated last Saturday with a degree in public relations, is a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and has been a member of the Dean’s List since 2002, her freshman year.
The senior pitcher is the second UA softball player to earn the honor, joining Angela Johnson who earned the award in 2004.
On the field Wright has had a stellar year in the circle for the Crimson Tide, posting career highs in wins (17) and strikeouts (110).
Wright and her teammates will face Mississippi State Thursday afternoon at 12:30 C.S.T. in the first round of the 2005 SEC Tournament in Gainesville, Fla.
