DAY ONE RESULTS:
Georgia Defeats Auburn 4-0 at SEC Tournament
Tuscaloosa, Ala — No. 7 Georgia (14-6, 8-4 SEC) defeated Auburn (7-14, 0-12 SEC) in the 1st round of the SEC Tournament Thursday at The University of Alabama Tennis Complex in Tuscaloosa.
Georgia dominated the match, defeating Auburn 4-0. The Bulldogs clinched the match when Georgia’s Evgenia Subbotina defeated Auburn’s Tori Almagno 6-1, 6-0.
Georgia’s coach Jeff Wallace was excited about his team’s dominating win. Wallace felt that the doubles win propelled his team to an energetic performance in the singles.
“I thought the team came out and played really well in the doubles and captured that doubles point. Then we just rolled in the singles. I thought we really played well as a team today. Our players were focused our energy was way up and I thought we did a really great job.”
Georgia will face Tennessee in round two of the Tournament tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. Coach Wallace hopes his team will perform as well as they did today.
“We know Tennessee real well. They are a great team,” Wallace said. “It’s going to be a tough match where both teams are going to have to be scrappy. It’s going to be a hard fought match, but hopefully we can pull it through.”

Mississippi State Defeats LSU 4-3 in SEC First Round
TUSCALOOSA – The Mississippi State Bulldogs took the LSU Tigers to the wire Thursday afternoon, defeating the Tigers 4-3 in first round action of the SEC Women’s Tennis Tournament.
Doubles action, which began at 9am, lasted an hour and 54 minutes and saw LSU pick up its first point after taking two of three from the Bulldogs. Singles action began, but was then delayed an hour due to rain in the area. Play was then moved to the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility.
After the completion of five singles matches the two teams stood tied at 3-3 with LSU’s Marina Chiarelli and Mississippi State’s Renee Joseph in the third set. Joseph came through with a 7-5 victory in the third set to give the Bulldogs the victory and advance to the second round.
“Today was huge” said Mississippi State Head Coach Tracy Lane. “We’ve been out here seven hours and I just can’t say enough. We were backed up against the wall and found a way to win. I’m so proud of the girls and I’m so proud of Renee (Joseph). She really pulled it out for us today.”

South Carolina Advances at Women’s SEC Tennis Tournament
The South Carolina Gamecocks (14-7, 7-5 SEC) advanced to Friday’s quarterfinals of the Women’s SEC Tennis Tournament late Thursday night with a 4-1 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks (11-11, 1-10).
The match finally got underway after rain delayed the start nearly three-hours. A second rain storm hit in the middle of doubles and delayed the match another four hours and things wrapped up just minutes before midnight. The Gamecocks’ Magda Wojdylo clinched the win at No. 5 singles with a win over Illiana Pacheco.
South Carolina jumped out to a 1-0 lead after sweeping the doubles, four hours after they began. Lara Ganzer and Fallon Koon clinched the point for South Carolina at No. 3 doubles. USC also won at No. 2 doubles and led at No. 1 doubles when the point was clinched.
For Arkansas, Vlatka Jovanovic earned the Hogs’ only point of the night. Jovanovic defeated Danielle Wiggins in straight sets at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1.
South Carolina will play third-seeded Florida on Friday at 2 p.m.
