There was so much going on today that I hardly know where to begin. I'm sitting here at the library right now just thinking of all the little things that people do for us... smiley faces all over the team room, table decorations, signs with quotes on them strategically placed on tables, Jami coming out to help this afternoon, Keith voluntarily helping us everyday, Emily and Martha spending hours making things perfect, Michelle always being so selfless and helping us more than she'll ever know, Jenny ceaselessly working and investing so much time, love and energy into this team... and I am amazed. I am amazed by all that is going on around me and I suppose I barely know the half of it.
I've never been to a conference tournament before let alone been a member of the hosting university team Throughout the morning and afternoon I have been catching myself thinking "this time tomorrow..." and it sends shivers down my spine every time - I can't wait for match time to arrive.
That was pretty much the feeling at practice today also, everyone was energized and ready to play. Perhaps the most exciting thing is that this tournament is like a clean slate. In our team meeting after practice Mainz told us that tomorrow is the start of a new beginning - anything can happen that you make happen. She also told us that she believed in each and every one of us. I walked out of that meeting feeling 6 feet tall, thinking I could do anything. Then I walked over to smoothie king...
A couple of hours later we all met up again at the Sheraton for the SEC banquet, and I dare say you would barely recognize the team from the girls who left the courts. Everyone was dressed up and by the time Mel Minor and I got there dinner rolls had already been smuggled to the table. The banquet went well, and although the awards went elsewhere, we left knowing that tomorrow truly is a new beginning.
Ah well, that's three days down, one good nights sleep to go and then look out Ole Miss...
Roll Tide!!!
