Women's Golf Concludes SEC Championship and the Season

TUNICA, Miss. – The University of Alabama women’s golf team trimmed two shots off their second round total carding a final round 314 to finish in 10th place at the Southeastern Conference Championship tournament on Sunday at Tunica National Golf & Tennis Club.
For the tournament, the Crimson Tide finished with a three-day total of 933 over the par 72, 6,281-yard layout at Tunica National.
Junior Audrey Gale was the team’s top performer on Sunday firing a one-under-par 71. Gale was one of just seven golfers in the field to post a score of par or better in the final round. Fellow Junior Carina Sorensen was the squad’s low scorer for the event finishing in a tie for 22nd at 230 including a final round 83.
Gale ended the tournament tied for 30th at 233 with senior Megan George 79 (237/ T44th) and freshman Emily Sykes 81 (241/ 50th) rounding out the scores for Alabama. UA senior Darby Sligh, who has battled a balky back all season, was forced to withdraw from play on Sunday due to her injury.
Auburn and Georgia finished the 54 holes of play tied at 904. It took a pair of playoff holes, but the Tigers eventually prevailed to claim the SEC Championship crown. Arkansas was third at 905 with LSU and Tennessee tying for fifth at 906. Florida was sixth at 911 followed by South Carolina (914), Kentucky (923), Vanderbilt (927), ALABAMA, Mississippi State (947) and Ole Miss (969).
Arkansas freshman Stacy Lewis captured the individual medallist crown with a score of 214 including a Tunica National record round of five-under-par 67 on Sunday.
The SEC Championship marked the final competition of the 2004-05 season for Alabama and was also the final event under the guidance of retiring head coach Betty Palmer. Earlier this week, Palmer announced her plans to retire at the end of the season following 17 years at the helm of the Crimson Tide program.
