Alabama will wind up its regular season Saturday night at the Luther Young Tennis Complex in Auburn, Ala. for the 80th renewal of the Alabama-Auburn tennis match.
The Crimson Tide (9-14, 0-10) will be gunning for its third consecutive victory after winning twice on Wednesday as well as looking to break a two-match losing skid to the Tigers. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
“I feel like we gained some confidence this week with a couple of wins,” Alabama head coach Billy Pate said. “Hopefully that will carry over to Saturday. Auburn is a good team and we know we’ll have to play well to win.”
The match will feature four 20-match winners, three of which belong to Alabama. Luigi D’Agord leads the Tide with 25 victories. Billy Mertz is close behind with 24 and No. 86 Joseph Jung now has 21 wins. This is the first time in Alabama history that the Tide has had three players with 20 wins a piece in the same season.
The Alabama-Auburn series dates back to 1949 and is the oldest running rivalry on the books for the Crimson Tide. Alabama holds an all-time advantage of 49-29-1 over the Tigers.
