UA Freshman Jordan Praytor is off to a successful start for the Tide this season. The Washington native’s .357 batting average ranks second on the team. In the following interview, Jordan talks about her softball career and how she decided to play for the Crimson Tide.
You are originally from Vancouver, Washington. What made you decide to play softball at a school across the country?
“I really just wanted to be part of a quality program where I knew I could contribute. I came on my visit and could tell the coaches really cared.”
Your father played some college baseball. Did that encourage you to start playing ball so young?
“Yes, my dad has played baseball all his life. He lucked out and had two girls, so playing softball was a given. He has a great sense of the game and helps me out a lot. He is just a great coach and person to go to for help.”
What athlete do you admire the most and why?
“There are several I admire. Probably the one I admire the most is Toni Mascarenas. She played softball at Arizona and there were a lot of similarities between us. I wanted to play like her.”
You were honored with numerous awards during your high school career, including first team all-state. Which award are you most proud of?
“Probably being named co-player of the league. Our league is so full of talent and it was really an honor to be at the top of that list.”
Rolltide.com lists your position as utility. What is your favorite fielding position and why?
“I’ve always been a third baseman until I came here. I just want to make an impact wherever I play.”
