The University of Alabama tennis team will look to stay hot this weekend when it hosts its final Southeastern Conference homestand of the season at the UA Tennis Complex against South Carolina and No. 8 Florida.
The Crimson Tide will carry a two match winning streak into Friday’s match against South Carolina, set to begin at 4 p.m. The match is also being taped to be shown nationally on the Tennis Channel and will be shown locally as well. Times and dates for the broadcast have yet to be determined.
Alabama (7-8, 0-4) is still looking for its first SEC win of the season but is coming off back-to-back wins for the first time since it reeled off four wins to start the season. The Tide downed North Carolina on March 18 and defeated Southern Miss Wednesday night.
For the second time in three seasons and just the third time in Alabama history, the Tide has a pair of players with 20 wins each in a single season. Freshman Billy Mertz (20-10) joined Luigi D’Agord (22-13) in the 20-win club Wednesday night. Mertz has won seven of his last nine matches to help lead the Tide.
Friday’s match against South Carolina will begin at 4 p.m. and Sunday’s match against Florida will start at 1 p.m.
