Men's Tennis Drops SEC Match to Mississippi State

Alabama tennis lost 5-2 Sunday afternoon to SEC Western division foe Mississippi State at the UA Tennis Complex.

The twenty-third ranked Bulldogs won the day’s first six matches, three doubles and three singles, to clinch the victory early. MSU’s Florent Girod picked up the clinching win at No. 6 singles over the Tide’s Andrew Felsenthal.

Alabama head coach Billy Pate is now 1-3 against his alma mater.

“This team and our coaching staff is tired of being close,” Pate said. “We’ve had chances in every match and haven’t converted.”

After MSU clinched the win, Luigi D’Agord and Eric Molnar put together a rally and finished off their opponents to collect Alabama’s two wins on the day. D’Agord won at No. 1 singles over Luiz Carvalho to earn his 21st win on the year. Molnar’s win was his first in SEC play. 

“We got off to a pretty good start in singles, but we have to start rallies sooner,” Pate said.

Alabama will go out of conference next Friday as it takes on North Carolina at the UA Tennis Complex. The match is set to start at 4 p.m.
