
Alabama's Day Wins Title at SEC Coach's Classic

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – Alabama’s Melissa Day closed out the fall season by winning her first championship of the season Sunday at the SEC Coach’s Fall Classic.
Day defeated South Carolina’s Grace Blakely 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 in Sunday’s final to win the Flight C singles title. Day entered the tournament having played just two matches this fall but managed to reel off four consecutive wins in three days to claim the title.
The Tide’s Mari Muller and Andrea Brenes almost brought home a second title for Alabama. The duo played in the Flight A doubles final against Mississippi State’s Anastasia Kugakolova and Elna de Villers, but lost in a tie-breaker, 9-8.
On the weekend Alabama players won nine matches in three days. Collectively this fall, Tide players have won four tournament titles.
Alabama will take to the courts next on January 14 as it begins the spring season on at the Virginia Invitational.
