The University of Alabama men’s cross country team battled cool and windy conditions in Terre Haute, Indiana as they finished 21st at the 2005 NCAA Championships.
As has been the case all season, freshman Augustus Maiyo led the Tide with a 59th place finish running the 10k course in a time of 30:37.30. Sophomore Alex Korir was second for Alabama finishing 74th in a time of 30:46.40. Freshman Abraham Kutingala finished 120th (31:09.30), freshman Titus Koeh was 169th (31:35.90) and senior Peter Etoot was the final scorer for the Crimson Tide finishing 228th (32:19.20). Freshman Frederick Cameron finished 250th with a time of 33:51.50 for Alabama but did not score.
“The program came a long way from a year ago,” said head coach Harvey Glance. “I’m real proud of these guys. They competed hard and ended up being ranked 21st. We’ll just keep pushing forward and get ready for the indoor season.”
"21st is a dissapointing end to a very solid fall," said coach Joe Walker. "I know without a doubt that we had a shot at a top 10 finish, but we just didn't get it done. To be back in the Top 25 to finish the year has to be considered a successful season though, and it should inspire us to show up strong next fall with only one graduating senior."
The Tide will return four of its top finishers from the meet next season.
