Alabama cross country junior Julia Hicks has been named second team All-Southeastern Conference after a 14th place finish at the SEC Championships.
“Julia has had a great season so far and there is still more work to be done,” coach Steve Keith said. “She has gotten faster every meet and we look for her to keep that streak alive at the NCAA regional in two weeks.”
Hicks set a new school record over a 6-kilometer course at the SEC Championships when she crossed the finish line with a 20:32.96, leading Alabama to its best team finish, eighth, since 2000. She is also the first cross country All-SEC honoree since Aly Mills and Ashley Labudde in 2000.
Alabama returns to action Nov. 12 for the NCAA South Region Championships in Gainesville, Fla. Alabama was 15th at last year’s regional.
