Alabama Women's Cross Country 8th at SEC Championships

The Alabama women's cross country took eighth place at the Southeastern Conference Championships held Saturday morning on Hilton Field in Fort Jackson, S.C.
It was a breakthrough day for the Crimson Tide as its top-5 all ran faster than 22 second. They also all figure in Alabama's all-time top-10.
The Tide, led by junior Julia Hicks, posted its best finish since 2000 when they were fifth. The Tide amassed 190 points, just behind Vanderbilt's 161. Tennessee won its third consecutive SEC title, followed by second play Arkansas and third place Georgia.
Hicks ran a 20:32.96 over the 6-kilometer course, good for 14th place. She shaved more than 30 seconds off her career best, set two weeks ago at the Chili Pepper Festival, and set a new school 6k record in the process. She is only the second Alabama athlete to go under 22 minutes over a 6k course.
Sophomore Tara Enebak was Tide's second finisher, coming in 39th with a 21:27.97, another career best and third all-time for the Crimson Tide. Junior Megan Carnes was 42nd with a career best 21:37.52. She is now fourth all-time for the Tide. Freshman Katie Davis was fourth for the Tide and 52nd overall. Her 21:52. 97 is fifth all-time for the Tide. Junior Elizabeth Wancwociz rounded out Alabama's scoring, taking 55th place with a 21:65.74, a career best and sixth all-time for the Tide.
Alabama returns to action Nov. 12 for the NCAA South Region Championships in Gainesville, Fla. Alabama was 15th at last year's regional.
