Siljestrom, a 6-9 sophomore, powered his way past Jung on the indoor surface in the final set with a big serve. After losing a first-set tiebreaker, Jung hung with Siljestrom stride-for-stride throughout the second set. Siljestrom finally broke Jung once however, and held serve the rest of the way to claim victory.
“Joseph really played well,” head coach Billy Pate said. “Overall, this was a great performance for us and there have been a lot of positive things for us to build on.”
This was Jung’s deepest run through a major event in college. Along the way he defeated two seeded players and won two three-set matches.
Jung and the rest of his Alabama teammates will now two weeks off to rest up for the Southern Cal Intercollegiates beginning November 2.
Quarterfinals
Andreas Siljestrom (MTSU) d. Joseph Jung, (UA), 7-6, 7-5
