
Alabama Tennis to Host Spring Play Day on Sunday

The Alabama tennis programs will host its semiannual tennis Play Day on Sunday, January 23 at the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility to help kick off the 2005 Spring Season.
The event will run from 2 to 4 p.m. and will give tennis enthusiast of all ages in the Tuscaloosa community an opportunity to meet and have instruction from both the men’s and women’s tennis teams from the University of Alabama. The event will be hosted by men’s coach Billy Pate.
“This has been a very successful event over the last few years and we are thrilled to be able to continue to invite the public to be involved in our programs,” said Pate. “We want to the local community tennis community to interact with our programs and generate excitement around the programs we are building.”
Pate is in his third year as the Crimson Tide’s head coach. In 2003 he guided Alabama to the Round of 16 in the NCAA tournament and has been to the NCAA tournament in each of his first two seasons. Women’s coach Jenny Mainz is in her eighth season at the Capstone and has led the Tide to four consecutive NCAA tournaments as well as the 2003 SEC Western Division Championship.
The event is open to tennis fans of all ages and skill levels. There will be free food and prizes. For more information contact Billy Pate at 348-3686.
The women’s tennis team begins its season on Friday as it hosts Denver at the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility at 1 p.m. The Men’s season will begin Friday, January 28 with matches against Birmingham-Southern at 1 p.m. and Central Florida at 6 p.m.
