Alabama head women’s tennis coach Jenny Mainz has announced the hiring of former Southeastern Conference tennis star and the 2004 Southeast Regional Assistant Coach of the Year Alison Ojeda as the Tide’s new assistant coach.
Ojeda played at the University of Tennessee from 1999 through 2002 and has spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Texas A&M, where she was named regional assistant coach of the year.
“I am so excited about Alison joining our staff and team,” said Mainz. “She is very experienced as player and as an assistant coach. She has a positive, competitive spirit that is contagious and will do an outstanding job.”
As a player at Tennessee she racked up numerous awards such as the Cissie B. Leary Sportsmanship Award and the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award in 2002. She was also a three-time SEC Sportsmanship Award winner and All-American selection in 2001. During her senior season in 2002, she helped captain the Volunteers to its first ever appearance in the NCAA Final Four.
Ojeda will join the team in January. The Tide’s first match is scheduled for January 22 against Denver in Tuscaloosa.
