The Alabama men's cross country team finished second while the women took fifth at the Belmont Opener in Nashville, Tenn.
The Crimson Tide men saw four freshman figure among its scoring five including Alex Korir, who won individual title by clocking a 15:19.54 over the 5-kilometer course. Junior Kevin McDonough, the lone returner to score for Alabama, was second for Tide and fourth overall with a 15:23.20.
"The field was really bunched up early on and (Alex) did a good job of moving late to steal the win," said men's coach Joe Walker. "Kevin McDonough was fourth and it was a good effort there. He had a shot to be second, but just wasn't able to finish with two guys getting him late."
Host school Belmont won the meet with 49 points followed by the Tide's tally of 79.
And while the men were freshmen heavy, the women leaned on their sophomore class. She was followed closely by classmates Elizabeth Wancowicz, Tara Enebak and Megan Carnes who finished 27th, 29th and 32nd respectively.
