The Alabama women’s cross country team hits the road for its first race of the season the Belmont Opener in Nashville, Tenn.
“Our main emphasis will be to get out there with a good aggressive run and assess our fitness level at this point,” head coach Steve Keith said. “They’ve added some distance to the race this year, going from two to two and a half miles.”
The Crimson Tide will see 13 squads in Nashville, including Vanderbilt, UAB and Middle Tennessee.
Alabama returns all but one member of the 2003 squad, including it’s entire top-5. The Crimson Tide will be led by sophomores Julia Hicks, Tara Enebak, Megan Carnes and Elizabeth Wancowicz along with junior Blair Davis.
“By the end of their freshmen year Julia, Tara, Meg and Elizabeth had all stepped up,” Keith said. “They’ll be out front again for us again this year, along with Blair. I also expect freshman Jen Gray to make an impact early on.”
Gray is day-to-day at the moment when it comes to competition, after stepping in a hole during work outs earlier this week.
