Memorial Service Set for Swimmer Bernie Romero

The memorial service for Crimson Tide swimmer Bernie Romero will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29 at Holy Spirit Church in Tuscaloosa.
Romero died Sept. 15 at DCH Regional Medical Center where he was being treated for complications from leukemia. He was 21. A native of Quito, Ecuador, Romero was diagnosed with leukemia last year. After a period of remission, he returned to the hospital three weeks ago, where he contracted pneumonia.
The son of Juan Carlos and Ciana Romero, Bernardo Romero is survived by his parents, sisters Ana Maria, Cristina and Veronica Romero, brother Juan Pablo Black and a niece Emmily Mantilla.
