Despite dropping a 6-1 affair against the US Olympic Softball Team, the Southeast Collegiate All-Stars and The University of Alabama softball program were well-represented against arguably the greatest team in the world.
Tide junior Ashley Courtney posted a 3-for-3 night against the Olympians, as the four Tide players went 4-10 and scored the only run for the all-stars. Courtney’s three-hit night put her at 5-for-6 this year against the Olympic team. She went 2-for-3 earlier in the year when the Crimson Tide faced Team USA in the Palm Springs Classic in February.
Courtney’s five hits gave her three more than any player who has faced the U.S. in its undefeated run through 37 pre-Olympic games this year.
The All-Stars managed six hits against the U.S., the most of any team since Alabama reached the Olympians for the same number of hits in the U.S. team’s first game on its “Aiming for Athens" tour.
Former Crimson Tide All-America Kelly Kretschman pushed the Alabama representative total to five, as she started in right field and went 0-1 with a walk and a run scored for the Olympians.
