Day 4: May 21
We had a great breakfast here at the hotel where the food is wonderful and the included gratuity is too high. We then headed over to the field at about 10:20 to play our 12:00 game against Cornell. The game was awesome! We won 10-0 and it was all shown on ESPN. The MVP of the game was definitely my roommate and “support sister” Capper Reed. Cap had two home runs and many great plays in the field. Steph (VanBrakle) had another bomb and Ashley Courtney sent our fourth homer of the day to Sunset Boulevard. We adjust well to the slower pitching and I believe that Coach Murphy was very satisfied with our hitting and the great pitching performance by Stephanie and Erin (Wright).
I was so happy to see that everyone got a chance to play, whether it was running, hitting or playing defense. The weather of course was perfect again and I must mention that our two beautiful assistant coaches had perfect hair days for the TV game. The team wants to give shout outs to all our family, fans and loved ones back home. A large part of the reason that we are here is because of you.
After the game, we sat behind the plate in the hot sun, ate soft pretzels and watched UCLA play Louisville. We then came back to the hotel, got beautiful and headed over to the Saddle Ranch restaurant on Sunset Boulevard. It was a great choice by Aly and a fun place with many TVs show the Lakers game and a large bull ride in the middle of the room. Yes, we did experience this ride as our four bull riders were Coach Murphy, Aly, Vann and Marie Robbins. Coach Murphy did pretty well but he kicked the horn and scraped his foot. Next up was Aly who the manager and bull control man really seemed to like. All I saw was Aly’s little hand up and her cross and holy metals flying around her neck. Vann was the next up and as Steph remarked, “She looked like a 5-year old on a roller coaster ride. She was screaming and her hair was flying all over the place.” On Marie Robbins, Michelle Menningman said “Marie definitely showed up all the coaches!” She showed off her gymnastics skills and strengths tonight with her pointed toes and great balance and control.
Celebrity sighting of the day was “Ashley” from the TV show “Fresh Prince”. Following the appetizers, good food and great fellowship we came back to the hotel for our 9:00 meeting. Coach Murphy went over some of our great plays of the day. We discussed game strategy and the realization that we are very capable of beating UCLA. We are ready to play, fired up and ready to win!
Tonight, before Jackie Mac hit the bed, she told me, “I have a good feeling about tomorrow.”
Erin Wright said, “If we score a couple of runs, we will win.”
Freshman Kellie Deska put it simply, “I’m stoked.”
Well, it’s about that time to go to bed. Good night, Roll Tide and God Bless Alabama Softball!!
