Alabama Women's Golf Concludes Play at UGA Tournament

ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Alabama women’s golf team shot a final round 315 to finish in 17th-place at the 32nd annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic on Sunday.
The Tide finished the three-day event with a score of 935 (318-302-315). Junior Megan George paced the Bama lineup shooting a 226 including a round of 77 on Sunday. George’s total earned her a tied for 35th.
“We had a little bit of a rough day on Sunday,” said UA head coach Betty Palmer. “We are going to take a week off for Spring Break and then when we get back we’ll turn our attention to the SEC Tournament in the middle of April. Our plan will be to work hard in practice and find our groove as we head into the postseason.”
UA freshman Amy Middleton was the Tide’s top performer in the final round posting a score of 76 to finish with a 230 total. Middleton tied for 51st with junior teammate Darby Sligh, who carded a 77 on the final day.
Carina Sorensen shot an 85 on Sunday to finish tied for 92nd (249) and senior Mandy Tedder rounded out the Bama lineup with a final round of 85 and a tie for 94th (254) showing.
The host team of the event, Georgia, rallied on Sunday capturing the team championship by 11 strokes. UGA finished with a one-over-par 865 followed by 36-hole leader Ohio State at 876. Duke earned a third-place finish at 877 followed by Oklahoma State, Auburn, Tennessee, Michigan State, Furman, Florida State, Wake Forest, South Carolina, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, East Carolina, Kent State, Alabama and Kentucky.
Duke’s Brittany Lang led wire-to-wire en route to capturing the individual medallist crown with a score of 207.
The Alabama women’s golf team will take several weeks off from competition before concluding their regular season schedule at the SEC Championship Tournament on April 16-18 in Baton Rouge, La.
