BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. – The University of Alabama women’s golf team fired a second round 318 to maintain hold of their eighth place positioning at the Lady Gamecock Classic on Saturday.
The Crimson Tide owns a two-day score of 634 heading into the final round. UA juniors Darby Sligh and Megan George carded team low rounds of 78 on Saturday to lead the Tide. Sligh, who is battling a sore back, moved up into a tie for 19th at 156. She is joined by Bama freshman Amy Middleton at 156 (T-19th) after the rookie posted an 81 on day two.
George is tied for 34th at 160 and is followed in the Alabama line-up at the event by sophomore Carina Sorensen in a tie for 40th at 163 (82-81) and senior Mandy Tedder tied for 49th at 166 (81-85).
“We had a pretty solid front side today,” said UA head coach Betty Palmer. “We just struggled again on the back nine. We are continuing to have trouble with our course management. Hopefully we can learn and build on this performance. I look for this group to regroup and play hard in Sunday’s final round.”
North Carolina shot a 302 on Saturday to take the lead in the team competition at 605. South Carolina, the host of the event, is in second at 607 followed by Tecas (619), Furman (620), Wake Forest & Washington (621), LSU (628), ALABAMA, Florida State (637), Texas A&M (638) and North Carolina State (647).
Tournament action at the Lady Gamecock Classic concludes with a final round of 18 holes on Sunday at the par 72, 5,996 yard USC University Club.
