TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- The University of Alabama women’s tennis team (4-3, 0-0 SEC) enters Southeastern Conference play Friday with its biggest challenge of the year, hosting 2nd-ranked Georgia (6-1, 0-0) in Tuscaloosa at 3 p.m.
“Georgia has earned their No. 2 national ranking,” Alabama head coach Jenny Mainz said. “They are strong from No. 1 to No. 6 and they always compete well and bring out the best in their opponents.”
Georgia sports the nations top ranked singles player, Agata Cioroch, and No. 9 Shadisha Robinson. Cioroch and Robinson also make up the No. 4 doubles squad in the country. Coach Mainz said the Lady Bulldogs high national rankings will give her squad an opportunity to test themselves.
“This is a big weekend for us,” Alabama head coach Jenny Mainz said. “We are excited to embark upon our challenging conference schedule. In the SEC you get an opportunity to consistently play against the upper echelon of collegiate women’s tennis.”
Alabama travels to Knoxville on Sunday to face No. 23 Tennessee.
“Tennessee will be another tough SEC opponent especially on their turf,” Mainz said. “We will be ready for the chance to dual the another very good SEC team. They are a team that always finds a way to get it done. It should be a great match.”
The match will take place at the UA Student Rec courts, or at the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility if there is inclement weather.
