TUSCALOOSA - The University of Alabama women's basketball team looks to bounce back from a disappointing loss on Saturday when they play host to in-state foe Alabama A&M on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum.
The Tide, 6-2 on the year, struggled offensively in their last outing against No. 25 Kansas State falling 71-52. The loss snapped a two-game win streak for the Tide. Tuesday's game will be the final home game of the 2004 calendar for Alabama.
Alabama A&M brings a 4-2 record into the contest following a 71-59 loss at Bethune-Cookman in their last game. The Bulldogs should be rested having not played since the BCC game on Dec. 14. AAMU is 0-2 versus SEC teams (both losses to Auburn) under third-year head coach Altherias Warmley, a former UAB standout.
Saturday's game marks just the second all-time meeting between UA and AAMU with the Tide earning a 76-51 victory in the first contest on Dec. 11, 1999. An Alabama women's basketball non-conference home attendance record was set that day when 7,094 fans showed up for the game and for a chance to win a Mercedes M-Class. Alabama is 33-3 all-time against teams from the SWAC including a 22-1 mark under Head Coach Rick Moody.
Following the A&M game, Alabama will close out its 2004 slate with a pair of games at the Christmas City Classic hosted by Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa., on Dec. 29-30. The Tide opens tournament action against Delaware at 5 p.m. (ET) on Dec. 29. Lehigh and Yale play in the other opening contest.
The Alabama Cable Network (ACN) will be televising the UA-AAMU game live. Tide fans can listen to Tuesday's game on the radio on WACT 1420 AM "The Tusk" and WVUA 90.7 FM locally in Tuscaloosa and also on the internet at www.rolltide.com. Live statistics for the game will be available on the Alabama athletic website: www.rolltide.com.
