TUSCALOOSA - The University of Alabama women's basketball team returns to the road this weekend with a challenging game against Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tenn., on Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Crimson Tide, now 5-1 on the season, is coming off an impressive 74-55 victory over in-state rival UAB on Tuesday night. UA got back on the winning track using a stingy defense that held the Blazers to only five field goals in the first half and just 23.5 percent shooting from the floor for the game. Bama continues to use its depth as an advantage with 10 players averaging double digit minutes per game in playing time.
Tennessee Tech, the preseason favorite to win the Ohio Valley Conference, improved to 5-2 on the season after out-battling rival Middle Tennessee, 52-50, on Thursday night in Cookeville. The Golden Eaglettes are looking to avenge their 83-61 loss to the Tide last year in Tuscaloosa.
This will be the fifth time that Alabama and Tennessee Tech have met on the hardwood with the pair evenly splitting their previous meetings. UA head coach Rick Moody is 14-1 all-time against teams in the OVC, with the one loss coming at Tech in his first season at the Bama helm.
Saturday's game marks the beginning of a busy week for Crimson Tide players, who will return home following the game and take their final exams for the fall semester all next week. Bama's "Exam Week" concludes with a game against #25 Kansas State next Saturday in Springfield, Mo., as part of the Triple Crown Sports Classic.
Tide fans can listen to Saturday's game on the radio on WACT "The Tusk" 1420 AM locally in Tuscaloosa and also on the internet at www.rolltide.com. Live statistics for the game will be available on the Tennessee Tech athletic website: www.ttusports.com.
