The University of Alabama men's cross-country team finished in eighth place with 241 points at Saturday's NCAA South Regional held at Harry Pritchard Golf Course.
Alex Korir was the Crimson Tide's highest placing harrier. Korir, a sophomore, finished in 11th place with a time of 30:08.92. He missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships by one second but was named to the South All-Region team. Ryan Snellen of Belmont grabbed the final NCAA Championship spot as he finished with a time of 30:07.09.
"I'm proud of Alex. He ran well and really pushed to get himself in position to make it to the NCAA's. He was in position but just couldn't hold it," said Alabama head coach Joe Walker.
Alabama's next three competitors grouped it together nicely. Kevin McDonough came in 36th place with a time of 31:17.17 with teammate Peter Etoot not far behind in 44th at 31:34.69. Gaiting Kara finished 20 seconds behind Etoot in 53th place.
Florida swept the top two spots in the race. Steve Zieminski won the Regional Championship with a time of 29:35.86. The Gators' Henok Lechebo finished in second at 29:36.38. Georgia's Simon Ngata, Auburn's Chris Walsh, and Chattanooga's Steven Kocsis also earned berths to the NCAA Championships on November 23.
Florida State and Florida finished first and second respectively in the team championship race. FSU finished with 59 points, 12 points ahead of rival Florida.
