
Tide Women's Golf Continues Play at Mercedes Championship

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Alabama women's golf team trimmed two strokes off their opening round performance shooting a second round 312 on Saturday at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Collegiate Championship.
Junior Carina Sorensen posted the low round of the day for the Tide carding a 74. Junior Audrey Gale posted another solid round for Bama finishing with a round of 75 to remain among the Top 10 individuals. Gale is tied for ninth with a two-day score of 147.
"We got good rounds from both Carina and Audrey," said UA head coach Betty Palmer. "However, our short game hurt us today. Hopefully we will get things turned around and finish with a strong showing on Sunday."
Other Alabama golfers competing in the Mercedes-Benz Championship included Megan George (80), Emily Sykes (86), Rebecca Sykes (83).
Ohio State moved to the top of the team competition after firing a tournament low 287 on Saturday. The Buckeyes sit at 580 for the event and own a nine-shot advantage on Tulane (589) in second. Kent State is third at 598 followed by LSU, Tennessee and Arkansas in a three-way tie for fourth at 599. Alabama is in 15th-place at 626.
The Mercedes-Benz Championship, being played at the Cherokee Country Club, concludes with a final round of 18 holes on Sunday. Action begins at 8:30 a.m. (ET) in a shotgun start format.
