Alabama’s Luigi D’Agord remained on the winning side of things Tuesday at the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn. as he defeated New Mexico’s Max Jones, 6-4, 6-0.
D’Agord will play tomorrow in the finals of the qualifying draw against Kentucky’s Tigran Matirosyan.
“Luigi played exceptionally well today,” said Alabama head coach Billy Pate. “This was the most complete match he has played so far. He is gaining confidence and improving.”
If D’Agord wins tomorrow’s match he will advance into the main draw at the ITA Championships.
Freshman Billy Mertz’s hot streak finally ended on Tuesday. He was defeated for the first time by Georgia’s Matic Omerzel. Mertz opened his collegiate career with eight consecutive wins before suffering his first defeat to Omerzel.
