Alabama’s Luigi D’Agord won his first collegiate championship Sunday with a win at the Crimson Tide Fall Championships.
D’Agord defeated Virginia’s Marko Miklo in straight sets 7-5, 6-2 to win the Flight A Championship. He won five matches in three days and entered the weekend as the tournament’s No. 5 seed.
“I felt beat up coming into today,” said D’Agord. “My legs were tired but I still felt confident that I could win.
After being pushed in the opening set by Miklo, D’Agord turned up the heat on his opponent and finished him off strong.
“Miklo is the kind of player that plays to my weaknesses and so I knew that I had to stay focused throughout the match if I was going to win.”
D’Agord is now 13-3 on the season and is off to one of the best starts in Alabama history.
