Alabama’s No. 1 singles player Robin Stephenson received an At-Large bid today from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association to participate in the ITA National Indoor Championships.
“I’m thrilled for Robin. She deserves to play in this event. It will be a great challenge and opportunity for her to play against the best competition in the nation,” said Alabama head coach Jenny Mainz.
The ITA National Indoor Championships will feature 31 of the nation’s top collegiate athletes and is the second of three National Championship events held each year in collegiate tennis.
Stephenson received one of eight At-Large bids into the ITA National Indoor Championships. Twenty-three players qualified for the Championships by way of their performance in the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships or their respective ITA Regionals.
Stephenson is ranked No. 16 by the ITA and is 8-4 this fall. She has twice come within one victory of clinching a berth into the ITA National Indoors. At the Riviera All-Americans she lost to Florida’s Jennifer Magley in the finals of the main consolation draw and Sunday she fell to Georgia’s Shadisha Robinson in the semifinals of the Wilson/ITA South Regionals.
The Indoor Championships will be held in Ann Arbor, Mich. from November 4-7.
