Provost Finishes 7th; Tide Gets Another Top 5 Golf Finish

BATON ROUGE, LA. – In its final fall tournament, the University of Alabama men’s golf team finished fifth of 14 teams at LSU’s University Club Intercollegiate. Alabama finished the tournament at 18 under par, shooting even par, 288, in the first round, 11 under par, 277, in the second round, and seven under par, 281, in Tuesday’s final round.
It was Alabama’s third top five finish of the fall in five tournaments played. Alabama finished second at Tennessee’s Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions and third at Vanderbilt’s Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate.
The Crimson Tide will now rest its clubs from competition for the winter as the collegiate golf season extends from September to June. However it breaks from late November through early February for the winter months. Alabama will return to competition February 20-22 at the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate in Jacksonville, Fla.
Alabama’s Clint Provost collected his second top 10 individual finish of the fall at the University Club Intercollegiate. The senior shot 72-67-68/846 to finish T-7th at minus nine. Baylor’s Jeremy Alcorn was the tournament’s medalist with his 13-under par finish (68-68-67/203).
Provost was one of five players competing for the Crimson Tide at LSU. Freshman Mark Harrell finished T-13th (73-68-69/210). It was Harrell’s third Top 15 individual finish in a first fall that was highlighted by his third place, seven under par finish at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate. Redshirt freshman Joseph Sykora of Daphne finished T-31st (66-77-71/214). Thomas Hagler finished T-58th (78-69-73/220), and freshman Gator Todd finished T-66th (77-73-73/223).
SMU won the team championship, carding a minus 39 finish (275-274-276/825). Arkansas was second (832), followed by Ole Miss (840), Georgia Southern (845), Alabama (846), LSU (848), Auburn (849), North Florida and Kent State (851), Tulane (852), Baylor (854), UAB and Mississippi State (863), and Charleston (875).
