ROGERS, Ark. - The University of Alabama women's golf shot a final round 318 on Tuesday to earn an 11th-place finish at the Lady Razorback Invitational held on the par 72, 6,015-yard Pinnacle Country Club.
The Tide, who trimmed three strokes off their second round total, just missed finishing in the Top 10 by a single shot carding a tournament total 949 to tenth-place Wisconsin's 948.
Junior Audrey Gale posted a 76 on Tuesday for the Tide's low round. Gale was also the squad's top finisher at the event earning a tie for 27th at 234. Senior Megan George carded a final round 78 to record her second straight round in the 70s. George finished tied for 35th at 237.
"Today was a bit of a disappointing finish," said UA head coach Betty Palmer. "I felt like we were focused and ready to post a good score in the final round but we just couldn't get anything going all day. We just need to get back to work on the practice course and try to find a mix of players that will be able to play a full tournament. I did think that Audrey and Megan did a great job of grinding out a solid score after having a trouble spot in their rounds."
Other Tide golfers competing at the Lady Razorback included sophomore Amy Middleton with an 84 (240, T52), freshman Emily Sykes 80 (242, T61) and junior Carina Sorensen 84 (251, T89).
Iowa State captured the team competition with a score of 905. The Cyclones led wire-to-wire posting an 11-shot victory over runner-up Texas A&M (916). Tournament host Arkansas finished third at 920 with Missouri (921) and Notre Dame (922) rounding out the Top Five. ISU's Lisa Meschke, who led from start to finish, earned the individual medalist title with a three-day score of one-under-par 215.
Alabama returns home for a brief time of practice before playing in their final fall tournament. The Tide will head to Destin, Fla., for the Chrysler ACC/SEC Women's Golf Challenge on Oct. 29-31.
