ROGERS, Ark. – In steady blowing winds of up to 25 mph and through rounds that lasted over six hours, the University of Alabama women’s golf team carded a 321 in the second round of the Lady Razorback Invitational at the par 72, 6,015-yard Pinnacle Country Club on Monday.
Sophomore Amy Middleton fired the Tide’s low round of the day finishing with a 74. Middleton is tied for 26th with a two-day score of 156. Senior Megan George’s 79 was the only other score in the 70s for Alabama on day two of the event. George is now tied for 39th at 159.
“The winds were a real challenge for us today,” said UA head coach Betty Palmer. “We had a tough time mentally playing in the wind. We need to regroup and get ready for tomorrow’s final round. Hopefully, we can put some things together for a strong finish.”
In addition to Middleton and George, other golfers competing for the Tide on Monday included junior Audrey Gale with an 81 (158, T34), freshman Emily Sykes 87 (162, T60) and junior Carina Sorensen 89 (167, T83).
Opening round leader Iowa State maintained their lead in the team competition after shooting a second round 304. The Cyclones (601) own a 10-shot advantage over second place Missouri (611). Tournament host Arkansas and Texas A&M are tied in third at 613 with Illinois State rounding out the Top Five at 619. Alabama is tied in 10th position with Wisconsin at 631.
Tournament action at the Lady Razorback concludes with a final round of 18 holes on Tuesday.
