
Alabama Men's Tennis Opens Play at UVA Invitational

The University of Alabama men’s tennis team opened play in the first round of the UVA Invitational Friday in Charlottesville, Va.
Stephen Mitchell, who entered the tournament as the top seeded player, was upset in his first match of the season by Andrew Hamar of Wake Forest. Mitchell scored a win over Purdue’s Seth McKinley in consolation play.
Mike Green, who entered the tournament with a 3-1 singles mark, also fell in first round play, but rebounded with a win in the consolation draw. Green also teamed with Mitchell to down an Old Dominion duo, 9-7 in flight A doubles play.
Including Alabama nine teams are participating in this weekend's competition. Six schools (Alabama, Harvard, Purdue, Virginia, VCU, Wake Forest, and William & Mary) were ranked at the end of last season. NC State and Old Dominion are also competing in the tournament.
