Alabama Women's Tennis Inks Two Players

University of Alabama head women’s tennis coach Jenny Mainz announced the addition of two signees, Maria Muller ad Sonja Nikolic, scheduled to join the Crimson Tide for the 2003-2004 season on Tuesday.
”We are very pleased to have Maria and Sonja join our Crimson Tide Family,” Mainz said. “Both Maria and Sonja are exceptional individuals who will be instrumental in taking our program to the next level. We are looking forward to a prosperous future with new, young forces.”
Muller, of Rio Negro, Argentina, graduated from Instituto San Antono in Villa Maria, Argentina in 2003. Muller won two singles titles and one doubles championship playing at the second-highest level of Argentina’s Cordoba Premiere league in 2002. Maria was also semifinalist four times at the highest level of the Cordoba Premiere League. In addition to tennis, Muller has competed in handball, volleyball and gymnastics. Muller, 18, who began playing tennis at age eight, will enter the university as a freshman in the fall.
Nikolic, of Garmisch, Germany, is a 2003 graduate of Werdentels in Garmisch. Nikolic is ranked 10th in Bavaria and 105th in European rankings. She competed in the Orange Bowl Classic, Eddie Herr and Prince Cup international tournaments in 1999. Nikolic’s play was limited in 2001 and 2002 due to a stress fracture in her leg. Nicolic, 19, will also enter the university as a freshman in the fall.
