Sophie Cremers, a senior on Alabama women’s tennis team, was named first team All-SEC by the Southeastern Conference on Wednesday. Cremers went 19-3 in the dual match regular season and 8-3 in the SEC. Cremers is 6-0 at the number two position in the SEC and 2-3 at the number one spot.
“I think that Sophie is very deserving of first team All-SEC,” UA head coach Jenny Mainz said. “She has played very authoritative all year. She invested a lot into her senior year. It is a great honor and I am very proud of her.”
This marks the first time a member of the Crimson Tide has been named first team All-SEC in singles since Hilde Otterman in 1994. Otterman also made first team All-SEC in doubles with Marouschka van Dijk in 1994 and 1995. Baile Camino made second team All-SEC in singles in 1996 and 1997.
Alabama (16-6, 6-5 SEC) remained ranked 20th in the Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Team Rankings released on Wednesday. The Crimson Tide will face Mississippi State in the first round of the SEC Tournament on Thursday at 8 a.m. in Knoxville, Tenn.
