The Southeastern Conference has named Ashley Courtney the SEC Player of the Week for the first week of action in the 2003 season.
Courtney showed why she was selected as an All-American after the 2002 season at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial hitting .467 (7-15), driving in six runs while scoring five. She also hit a double, triple and a towering home run that cleared the trees beyond the right field fence at Easton Stadium on the campus of the UCLA Bruins. Courtney also drove in the winning run against #10 ranked CS-Fullerton and scored the game-winning run against Loyola.
“I thought Ashley had a great weekend against some very good competition,” said Alabama Head Coach Patrick Murphy. “She did everything she needed to do offensively to help us win.”
The honor is the second for the sophomore from Vero Beach, Florida. She was also named SEC Player of the Week during her freshman year.
Courtney and the Tide travel to Miami, Florida this weekend to participate in the Florida International University Invitational being held February 7-9.
