First, University of Alabama first baseman Jackie McClain hit a three-run home run to start a seven-run rally and bring the Tide back to defeat Notre Dame; then she was named to the NFCA Leadoff Classic All-Tournament team after hitting .455 with a home run, two doubles and six RBI. Finally she was rewarded for her efforts again being named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week.
“She just had that look in her eye this weekend, especially in the Notre Dame game and when she has that look I know that she’s about to explode at the plate,” said Alabama Head Coach Patrick Murphy. “She’s a great hitter and she can hit anybody in the country. Every year, she has proven that she can compete against the toughest competition and be successful.”
McClain currently has a team high eight-game hitting streak. This weekend she moved into fifth place on Alabama’s all-time RBI list with 121 and fifth on the Tide’s all-time doubles list with 36.
The honor is the second for the Tide this season and the first for McClain (Ashley Courtney won the award in Week 1, 2/3). She has now claimed the honor three times in her career, once each during her freshman and sophomore seasons and again this week.
McClain and the Tide will be in action on Wednesday when the team travels to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to take on the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. Alabama will be at home this weekend when the Crimson Tide hosts the Crimson Classic.
