Southern Illinois Defeats Alabama Softball in the Bama Bash!

Southern Illinois (7-0) broke open a tight pitchers' duel late to defeat the No. 22 ranked (USA Today/NFCA) University of Alabama softball team (8-5) 4-0 in game 6 of the 2003 Bama Bash!. Southern Illinois moves to 3-0 in the tournament and is the number one seed in tournament play.
Alabama's Erin Wright was able to hold the Salukis to just one hit, a Jenny Doehring second inning homerun that cleared the scoreboard, and struck out 12 Southern Illinois hitters over the first six innings of the contest. However the Salukis were able to plate three in the top of the seventh and took a 4-0 lead.
The Tide was unable to rally in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases but failing to drive home any runs.
Amy Harre moved to 4-0 on the season with six and a third shutout innings for Southern Illinois. Wright dropped to 4-3 with the loss.
Southern Illinois plays No. 4 seed Winthrop in game seven of the bash. No. 2 seed Alabama plays No. 3 seed Western Kentucky in Saturday's final game. The winner of each game will face off in the championship game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The losers will face each other in the consolation game Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
