
Crimson Tide Women's Tennis Sweeps Houston

The 31st ranked University of Alabama women's tennis team defeated the Houston Cougars 7-0 on Saturday in Tuscaloosa.
"We jumped ahead early today in doubles," UA head coach Jenny Mainz said. "I think that helped us a lot."
Alabama (6-1) won all three doubles matches to win the doubles point. At number one doubles, Alabama's Millie Begovic and Nathalie Koppelle defeated Houston's Miranda Foley and Yolandi Terblanche 8-4. UA's Sophie Cremers and Ashley Bentley won 8-0 over UH's Analia Longoni and Karine Urbin at number two doubles. The Tide's Stefanie Leung and Melissa Minor defeated the Cougars' Sarah Flood and Kami Miller 8-6 at number three doubles.
The Crimson Tide went on to sweep all six singles matches in straight sets. UA's Koppelle put the Crimson Tide up 2-0 with her 6-0, 6-1 victory over UH's Terblanche at number four singles. At number three singles, Bama's Marie-France Lord-Andrade won 6-0, 6-2 over Houston's Urbin.
The Crimson Tide's 71st ranked Begovic clinched the match by defeating the Cougars' Longoni 6-2, 6-1 at number one singles.
UA's Cremers improved to 7-0 in dual match singles play by defeating UH's Foley 7-6, 6-1 at number two singles. At number five singles, Bama's Natalie McElveen defeated Houston's Miller 6-2, 6-0. Alabama's Minor won 6-1, 6-3 at number six singles over Houston's Sandra Blajer.
Alabama will face West Virginia on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in Tuscaloosa. The match will be played at the UA Varsity Outdoor Courts and admission is free. In the case of inclement weather, the match will be moved to the Hank Crisp Indoor Tennis Facility.
"We cannot overlook West Virginia," Mainz said. "It will be another great match and continue to help us get ready for conference play."
