Alabama Swimming and Diving Fifth at Georgia Fall Invitational

The Alabama Men and Women's Swimming and Diving Teams both finished fifth at the 2003 Georgia Fall Invitational held in Athens, Ga. this weekend.
The Tide men scored 252 points while the women earned 210.5. Minnesota won the men's meet while Georgia won the women's side. Alabama was short handed at the meet, with a dozen swimmers competing across the county at the U.S. Open in Seattle, Wash.
The finals of the swimming events were competed over a 25-meter course.
Alabama's women were led by senior Lane Bassham who won both the one and three-meter diving events. Bassham remains undefeated off both boards this season. She won the one-meter board with 312.90 points and the three-meter board with 552.80 points.
Freshman Jenna Hasstreiter also finaled off the three-meter board, taking seventh place. Hasstreiter took third in the platform event, scoring 407.10 points while fellow rookie Karissa Tuthill was sixth with 294.10.
On the men's side, junior Stewart Smith won the three-meter board after scoring 511.70 points. Smith was second off the platform with 477.70 points and third off the one-meter board with 307.45 points.
Redshirt freshman Alan Harris took seventh off the platform with 373 points. Freshman Jesse Maple finaled off the one-meter and the platform, taking seventh and eighth respectively. Maple scored 311.25 off the platform and 273.60 on the one-meter.
Sophomore Darren Erasmus took third in the 50 freestyle with a 23.00 and fourth in the 100 freestyle, going 50.51.
Alabama returns to action after the New Year, facing Georgia on January 9 in Tuscaloosa.
