Bama Women's Hoops Opens Home Slate Versus Jacksonville State

TUSCALOOSA - The University of Alabama women's basketball team opens the home portion of its 2003-04 schedule on Tuesday night when the Tide welcomes in-state foe Jacksonville State to Coleman Coliseum for the a 7 p.m. tip-off.
The Crimson Tide enters the meeting with a 2-1 mark and riding high after their 84-66 victory on Saturday night over Long Beach State. Freshman Navonda Moore leads the team in scoring at 18 points a game and the rookie from Jackson, Miss., is the only Bama player to score in double digits in every game this season.
Sophomore Dee Merriweather is the Tide's top rebounder at nine boards a game. She is coming off a career best 13 rebound game versus Long Beach.
Jacksonville State has posted a 2-1 record so far this season. The Gamecocks are coming off a 71-60 win over Alabama A&M on Nov. 26. A pair of JSU players, Shanika Freeman (21.7 ppg/ 10.3 rpg) and Cobie Carlisle (11.0 ppg/ 10.3 rpg), are averaging double-doubles this season.
Alabama brings a 51 game non-conference home win streak into the Tuesday night tilt and the Tide has also won 56 of its last 59 meetings with in-state squads excluding Auburn.
Following the JSU game, Alabama continues its current four game homestand with a game on Friday versus UT-San Antonio (7 p.m.) and a match-up with nationally-ranked Virginia Tech (No. 24) at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
