The twin sisters hail from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia and become the Tide’s first Australian linksters. The pair has enjoyed very successful junior golf careers in their home country.
“We are extremely thrilled to have this pair of outstanding young golfers joining our program,” said Palmer. “They have both had stellar junior golf experiences and success in Australia. I believe that both of these young women are going to be an asset to this program and help continue the high level of play associated with Crimson Tide golf.”

Rebecca was the winner of the Bargara Junior Classic in 2002 along with finishing as the runner-up at the Queensland Junior Championships. She carded a second-place showing at the 2002 Australian Junior Championships and has been a member of the Queensland State Junior team for the past three years. The Sykes sisters teamed to earn a runner-up showing at the Queensland Ladies Foursome early this year.
While the Sykes will have to wait until next fall to compete for the Tide, Alabama’s current women’s golf squad is in the midst of their winter break from competition. The UA women’s golf team will return to competition Feb. 9-10 at the Tulane Invitational in New Orleans, La.
